A CHRO called me last week, frustrated.

“We have all the data. Predictive analytics. AI-powered workforce planning tools. We can forecast headcount needs down to the decimal point.”

She paused.

“So why do we keep hiring the wrong people at the wrong time? Why are we constantly surprised by turnover? Why does our ‘data-driven’ workforce plan feel so disconnected from reality?”

My answer was simple: not enough human judgment.

But those answers didn’t account for the cultural breakdown happening in her engineering department.

She needed solutions, not answers. Solutions require human judgment.
